1974 Volkswagen Thing
This 1974 Volkswagen Thing was registered in Washington State before being acquired by the seller in Canada in 2017, and subsequent work included installing a 1,776ci flat-four, reupholstering the interior, and replacing the black soft top, wheels, tires, and fuel system components.
The car is finished in burgundy over black vinyl upholstery, and equipment includes a four-speed manual transaxle, dual EMPI HPMX carburetors, a fold-down windshield, removable doors and side curtains, and duckboard flooring and luggage decks. Additional service during current ownership is said to have included removing the heat exchangers, powder-coating the muffler, and installing an electric cooling fan and electronic ignition system. This Type 181 is now offered in Canada with an uninstalled bikini top and British Columbia registration.
